I Forgot to just Forget

Give me a respite from the weight,
An ember shining through the black.
Another empty glass is made
As memories commence attack.

I had just one too many drinks
Then sank into a drunken haze,
And I forgot to just forget
Mistakes and woes, the drink betrays!

Now falling in these memories
I see those eyes that haunt my dreams,
But too sedate to lift a hand,
To run away from their regimes.

Now all mistakes, they torment me,
I guess I reap the pain I sow;
My failed escape from all the loss
Has come to naught, and now I know…

I had just one too many drinks,
There’s no escape within this life.
I had just one too many drinks,
The past, again picks up the knife.

I had just one too many drinks,
But couldn’t drown persistent strife.
And I forgot to just forget
There’s no escape within this life.
