The Marionette

Now dance marionette, now dance;
I’ll grind the organ, pull the strings.
As merrily they watch you prance,
A comedy for serfs and kings.

You are the joke we all adore,
Perhaps enough for just one laugh.
Let our tears of joy now pour
As our sides are split in half.

And now a jester takes the stage,
Around my wrist he ties a string.
A dash of make-up, war we rage!
The horns will blow, the bells will ring.

The show begins, your time has come
To play the fool and laughter makeā€”
So to their pleasure I succumb;
And then the grinning jester spake,

“Now dance marionette, now dance;
I’ll grind the organ, pull the strings.
As merrily they watch you prance,
A comedy for serfs and kings.

The sun will shine, a women sings
Be extra sharp beneath their glance
Now be the fool, ignore the stings
As our joys become a lance.”
